COVID-19 Update

With the COVID-19 pandemic, we strongly urge people to follow the government and WHO (World Health Organisation) advice to defer any travel for non-essential tasks and practice social distancing.  We remain open for business, however, like much of the community, we are coming to terms with an ever changing landscape. Our staff have completed the federal government COVID-19 infection control training for health workers and we have adapted our procedures and disinfection protocols to adhere to social distancing requirements and to reduce the likelihood of any microbial or viral spread.

We strongly suggest deferral of any “routine” eye examinations for the time being and we will not send any reminder letters or text messages for routine eye examinations during this period.  However, we remain open and available for any non-routine eyecare, including any red or irritated eyes, broken or damaged glasses, contact lens problems, continuation of reviews for existing treatments, and for any sudden changes to vision or ocular comfort.  We do not wish to have people who have noticed deterioration to their vision, or experienced any ocular irritation or broken/misplaced their glasses delay treatment as nobody knows how long these unusual conditions will be required, and timely intervention can reduce development to more serious eye problems.  We also understand the need to have clear and comfortable vision during this period.

We recognise much of the community is suffering and making significant sacrifices.  Choosing to reduce the patients and cases we see during this period will have an obvious impact financially, however as a company we feel it the RIGHT thing to do.  We feel we have a civic and social responsibility to remain open to support our community, and to keep eyecare problems that can be managed by our therapeutically licensed optometrists (we can prescribe prescription eye drops), to avoid adding further stress to our already overburdened hospitals and medical centres.

We remain open to continue to provide spectacles, sunglasses, contact lenses, contact lens cleaning solutions, and eye drops with minimal supply chain interruptions at this stage and will continue to remain open for business for as long as the health of our optometrists and staff, and the government authorities allow.   To ensure our staff remain healthy and we can continue to provide our services, we request that you do not come into the practice if you have had any recent overseas travel in the last 14 days, come into contact with someone who has been unwell or been diagnosed with COVID-19,  or had any recent symptoms of cough, fever or shortness of breath.

We understand many of you may be feeling anxious or depressed with the current circumstances and urge you to seek help if this is the case.
